Normally, orderBilly or your POS system decides what your printed tickets look like. With a receipt template, you decide. You pick the pieces you want on the ticket, like your logo, the order number, the products and the total, and put them in the order you want them printed. The printer then prints your template from top to bottom.
You have a template built once and link it to a printer or a kiosk. Every printer you don't link keeps printing exactly what it prints today.
Good to know: Receipt templates are being rolled out venue by venue. For now, our support team switches them on for your venue and helps you set up your templates. Want your own layout? Send us a message via the chat.
Have your ticket built from blocks
Each block puts one thing on your ticket. You can let a Billy coworker leave any block out, change the order of the blocks, and switch smaller details on or off inside each block.
Logo: your logo at the top of the ticket.
Venue details: your venue name, address, VAT number and phone number.
Order details: the order number, pickup code and table number.
How and where: eat in, take away or delivery, and which menu the order came from.
Customer: the name, email, phone number and delivery address of your guest. This block stays empty for guests who didn't log in.
Order lines: the products that were ordered, with their additions, notes and prices.
Custom questions: the answers to the extra questions you ask at checkout, and the discount code that was used.
Discounts: discounts, service fees and tips.
Total: the total amount and the VAT breakdown.
Payment: how and how much your guest paid, including vouchers.
Small print: times, the prep location, the device the order came from and the POS ticket number.
Barcode or QR code: a code that can be scanned.
Free text, Line, Blank space and Cut: your own text, a dividing line, some empty space and the place where the paper is cut.
A block with nothing to show simply prints nothing. It doesn't leave an empty gap on your ticket.
Choose the kind of ticket
Every template is one of three kinds. The kind decides how many tickets are printed for one order:
Receipt: one ticket with the whole order on it. This is the one you hand to your guest.
Kitchen ticket: one ticket per prep location, with only the products of that prep location. Read more about prep locations.
Kitchen ticket per item: one ticket per product. Two burgers means two tickets.
Good to know: A linked template always wins over the ticket type set on the printer. If the printer is set to print kitchen tickets but its template is a receipt, you get a receipt.
Pick the right paper width
You build a template for 58 mm, 80 mm or 112 mm paper. Always pick the width of the paper roll that is actually in your printer. A template built for 80 mm on a 58 mm roll cuts off the right side of every line.
Make it fit the way you work
Group the products on your ticket
In the Order lines block, you choose how the products are listed:
No grouping: one list, in the order they were ordered.
By category: drinks together, starters together, and so on, in the order of your menu.
By prep location: everything from the bar together, everything from the kitchen together. Handy for the person putting an order together, who sees at a glance where to collect everything.
Print additions without the question
An addition normally prints under the question it answers, for example "Choose your fries size" with "1x Small" below it. Your kitchen only needs the answer. Switch off Addition names under Additions in the Order lines block, and only "1x Small" is printed.
Print a block for some orders only
Every block has a Print for setting with eat in, take away and delivery. Switch one off, and that block is left off those tickets. This way, one template can give your takeaway tickets a look of their own. You can also duplicate a block, so the same block prints one way for take away and another way for eat in.
The Logo and the Cut are always printed on every ticket.
Link a template to a printer or kiosk
A template only starts printing once it is linked. You can link a template to:
a kiosk (Kiosk V2), for the ticket your guest gets at the kiosk
You link the template in the settings of the printer or kiosk, under Receipt template, not in the template itself.
Connected to a POS system? Receipt templates are used for tickets that orderBilly prints. Tickets printed by your POS system keep the layout of your POS. Read how to change what appears on your printed receipt.
Test print before you go live
With Test print, you send an example ticket to one of your printers, so you see it on paper before your guests do. The test uses made-up order data, so you can run it at any time, even on a template you haven't saved yet.
Your logo on paper
The logo on your ticket comes from your theme. Receipt paper is white and the printer only prints black, so a light logo made for a dark background can print as an empty or black rectangle.
That's why your theme can also have a receipt logo: a dark version of your logo, just for paper. Does your normal logo already look good on white? Then you don't need one.
Nothing changes by accident
A printer without a linked template keeps printing exactly what it prints today.
Delete a template, and the printers linked to it go back to the standard ticket.
Is the feature switched off for your venue? Then every printer goes back to the standard ticket. Your templates and links are kept, and come back when it is switched on again.
Something not right?
The printer still prints the old ticket.
Check that the template is linked in the settings of that printer. Building a template doesn't link it.
The right side of my ticket is cut off.
The template is built for wider paper than the roll in your printer. Check the paper width of both.
My logo doesn't print, or prints as a black box.
Your logo is probably light on a dark background. Add a dark receipt logo to your theme.
