Customising Default Text with Copy Overrides

Copy Overrides let you replace the default text shown in your customer-facing apps with wording that better fits your venue. You can customise text separately for your web ordering page and your kiosk, so each channel can have its own tone and terminology.

Go to Settings β†’ Copy Overrides to get started. At the top of the page you will find two tabs β€” Web and Kiosk β€” which switch between the two channels.

How it works

Text in your ordering apps is organised by section, such as Personalisation, Preferences, Home, or Checkout. Each section contains one or more text fields that can be overridden. The counter next to each field (for example 0/3) shows how many of the available language variants have been filled in. A green dot indicates that at least one override has been saved; a grey dot means the field still uses the default text.

Click the arrow on the right of a field to expand it and enter your custom text. Depending on your venue's language setup, you may see multiple language slots to fill in.

Web overrides

On the Web tab you can customise text across the following areas.

Personalisation contains the title shown when customers are asked about their favourite products.

Preferences lets you change the description shown on the allergens selection screen.

Personal allows you to rename the personal category title.

Product lets you override the message shown when a product is not orderable.

Modal contains the title of the cross-sell modal, which appears when related products are suggested to the customer.

Home lets you customise the "Where to order" shown on the home screen.

Input contains the label or placeholder for the message customers can leave for the waiter.

Tipping lets you change the text shown on the tipping screen.

Kiosk overrides

On the Kiosk tab you will find a similar set of options, with a few additions specific to the kiosk experience.

Checkout includes the pickup code label, the success title shown after a completed order, and the message for the waiter field.

Order lets you customise the success messages shown after a regular order and a takeout order are placed.

General contains the "Tap to order" call to action on the kiosk start screen and the greeting message.

Modal includes the idle screen messages. These are the texts shown when the kiosk has been inactive for a period of time.

Personalisation, Personal, Preferences, and Cross-sell work the same way as on the web tab.

Tips

You do not need to fill in every field. Any field left empty will simply fall back to the default text. It is also fine to only customise one channel β€” changes on the Web tab have no effect on the Kiosk and vice versa.

If your venue operates in multiple languages, make sure to fill in the override for each language variant shown in the expanded field, so all customers see consistent messaging regardless of the language they are using.
