How to add and manage category groups

What category groups are, how they fit into your menu, and how to add categories to a category group.

Category groups bring several categories together under one heading on your menu, for example 'Food' with 'Starters', 'Mains' and 'Desserts', or 'Drinks' with 'Beers' and 'Soft drinks'. Category groups are optional: you can build a menu with or without them.

How category groups fit into your menu

Your menu is built in layers:

  • Menu, for example 'Dine-in menu' or 'Takeaway menu'

  • Category group (optional), for example 'Food'

  • Category, for example 'Starters'

  • Product, for example 'Cheeseburger'

You set up category groups per menu, in Menus.

Good to know: A product only shows on your menu when every layer above it is switched on: the product, its category and the menu.

Create a category group

Go to the Menu builder. At the top, click on +.

Here, you will be able to give a Name and Description to your Category Group. You can also add an image, that will show on your menu when your clients are navigating through your different Category Groups (for example, Food, Drinks, ... )

Good to know:

As category groups are an orderBilly setting, changes here won't impact your POS, even if there is a connection between your POS and orderBilly. This is a mere display functionality on orderBilly to present your menus in an even clearer way.

Add categories to a category group

For the full steps, including how to add products to your categories, read How to add a category/product to the menu.

Managing your category groups

To manage the category groups you already created, click on the gearwheel icon on the right.

Here, you can make multiple changes:

  • Change the name and description of your category group, and add translations. As category groups are a mere orderBilly functionality, you have to add the translations here.

    > The category group marked in red is the one you are editing. To edit another category group, click on it.

  • Reorder your category groups. Click and hold the = blue icon of the category group, and change the position by gliding to the left or right.

  • Delete a category group
