How to manage allergens for a product

Add allergens to your products, so customers know exactly what's in their order.

Add allergens to your products, so your customers know exactly what's in their order. Allergens are shown as icons on your products. Customers who indicated they avoid an allergen get an orange warning on every product that contains it.

How to add allergens to a product

  1. Go to Catalogue > Products. Find the product in the list and click the pencil on the right, or search for it with the search bar at the top.

  2. Click "Go to detail page" and scroll to Allergies.

  3. Select every allergen the product contains.

As you will notice, certain allergens, like 'Gluten' and 'Nuts' have sublevels, called types. For gluten, you can indicate if you are talking specifically about barley, kamut, oats, rue, spelt or wheat for example.

  4. Click Save. Done ✅

We use the FAVV-validated allergens, with a few extra ones. For nuts and grains, you can also choose the exact type, like hazelnut or wheat.

Good to know: The options of an addition can have allergens too, for example a sauce with mustard. Add them to the addition, so customers also see them when they make their choice.

What your customers see

  • Icons on your products: the allergens are shown on the product tile. The full list is one tap away via the info button.

  • A warning: customers who indicated they avoid an allergen see an orange warning on every product that contains it.

  • Filters: customers can filter your menu on allergens.

Selling alcohol?

Add the allergen Alcohol to your alcoholic drinks. You can then ask customers to confirm they're old enough before they order. Read how to activate the age verification.

Connected to a POS?

Some POS systems (Deliverect, Lightspeed K-Series, Simphony and Trivec) can share their allergens with orderBilly. Sync allergens is switched on by default. The allergens from your POS then overwrite the ones in orderBilly with every sync. So either change them in your POS, or switch Sync allergens off to manage them in orderBilly. Read more about your POS sync settings.

Choose which allergen filters your customers see

Not every allergen is relevant for your menu. In your venue settings, you can choose which allergens customers can filter on. Read how to restrict visible allergen filters.
