Want your digital menu to reflect your venue’s vibe? With orderBilly’s theming features, you’re in full control of the look and feel. Head to ‘Themes’ in your backoffice and start customizing!
Note: Ensure everything is clear and easy for your customers to read. Provide enough contrast, and use logos and colors from your brand book.
You will see you have the possibility to create different themes, compared to only one before. You will see that you have one 'Default theme': this will be the theme that is being picked by default for your venue. You can, however, select a theme per menu. We will explain below.
Overview of your themes
On venue level, go to Settings > Themes. Here, you will get an overview of all the themes created for your venue.
NEW:
Themes owned by the organisation can now be used by every venue under it. This means a venue's theme list contains its own themes plus the organisation's, shared ones are marked and read-only at venue level. They can only edited by users having the Organisation manager role.
How to create a theme
To create a new theme, simply click on '+ Create theme'. Add a theme name and start changing multiple settings, like base colors, media & display, ...
Base colors: bring your brand to lie
Make your menu pop with the right color choices. Choose a primary color, text color, category text color, background color and default tag color.
Primary color – the main accent color of your menu.
Text color – this applies to header titles. Using white text can look great if your logo is also white.
Category text color – the color for your menu categories. We recommend a neutral, darker tone like dark grey for best readability.
Menu background color – the background of the menu itself. Tip: a very light version of your primary color often works best.
Default tag color
Save your changes by clicking on 'Save' at the top right.
If you want to reset your colors to the default ones, click on 'Reset to Default' next to 'Base Colors'.
Media & Display
Here, you can add your logo, cover image, menu background image, the background image for checkout forms and the order success header image.
Some tips for the best result:
Logo
The logo sits in a horizontal bar at the top of the menu.
A horizontal logo fits best and looks clean.
Round or vertical logos tend to show small and less clearly.
Best result? A white logo with a transparent background (PNG).
Cover image
A wide, welcoming photo of your venue – think full terrace or cozy interior.
Avoid close-ups of food or drinks (those are better for product photos).
Ideal aspect ratio? 16:9 or other horizontal formats.
Cover video (new)
Want movement instead of a still photo? Upload a cover video right next to the cover image.
It plays at the top of your menu in place of the cover image.
Same ideal aspect ratio as the cover image: landscape, 16:9.
MP4 is the best choice. We compress MP4 automatically so your menu stays fast to load. A WebM file plays too, but it is delivered exactly as you uploaded it — so keep that one small.
Short and seamless works best, and the video always plays without sound.
Once uploaded, your video is also shown back to you in the theme overview.
You can also add a Hero style by selecting a style from the dropdown menu, such as Original, No Overlay, Minimal, or Profile, to alter the overall visual presentation of your menu.
Original: the layout you’re used to
No overlay: no overlay between logo and picture
Minimal: clean and simple
Profile: includes a profile icon
With these theming tools, your menu won’t just be functional – it’ll feel like you. Have fun customizing!
Using the Minimal hero style? Minimal shows no header at all, so your cover image and cover video will not appear. Choose Original, No Overlay or Profile if you want your video on screen.
Don't forget to save theme changes: To apply all visual modifications, click the green Save button after making your changes in the Themes section. This action makes your updated theme settings live on your menu.
Modify typography and the look of your buttons, borders and tiles
Typography: Change the font you want to use for body and headers, by uploading the corresponding .wwof2 files. You can also indicate if you want the text to have a specific casing: capitalise, uppercase or lowercase. To Reset to default, simply click on "Reset to default" at the top
Buttons: Modify the button background color, button text color or change the button border radius to make your buttons more rounded.
Borders: Modify the roundness of input fields and cards, and change the color used for these borders.
Tiles: Change the border color, radius, width and padding (inner spacing between tile border and content).
In sections where changes can be reverted, a little cross button will appear next to the setting itself. When resetting this, the value will now be not set instead of for example 0px.
Add a final touch by also changing Layout Colors
Going from the color of the top bar that contains your logo and navigation, to the color of the footer of your background: choose your colors to make them match with your brandbook!
NEW
Kiosk: two toggles have been added, and you are also able to directly add your kiosk intro logo via 'Themes':
Show logo in kiosk header: indicate if you want to render the theme logo in the kiosk header. Switching this off also overrides a venue or brand theme that switches it on. For example: you have added a logo in 'Media & Display', but this toggle is off => the logo won't be shown in the header image of the kiosk.
Show logo on kiosk intro screen: indicate if you want to render a logo on the kiosk intro screen. This is a separate setting from the logo shown in the kiosk header. If you toggle this on, but don't add a kiosk intro logo, the logo uploaded via 'Media & Display' will be used.
The final step: Change the theme you want to use for a specific menu
The 'default theme' in the Themes section is the one that will be picked by default, so also for your kiosk for example.
You can, however, select a theme per menu, by going to Menus. Select the menu of your choice and go to Menu settings. Here, you wil see that you can change the Theme.
How to delete a theme
You can simple delete a theme, by going to the theme itself and clicking on Configure. In the theme settings, you will see Delete theme at the bottom.
A theme that is being used in a brand on organisation level can't be deleted.
