Overview
With the Google Tag Manager (GTM) integration, you can connect your own GTM container to orderBilly. This allows you to add custom tracking, analytics, and marketing scripts to your ordering flow without needing manual code injections.
This feature replaces the previous custom tags script and provides a more flexible and scalable way to manage tracking.
Before you start
To use this feature, make sure:
Custom Domains are enabled for your venue
The feature is activated via feature flags
Connecting Google Tag Manager
Step 1: Activate Custom Domains (by orderBilly staff ⚠️)
This feature depends on Custom Domains.
Go to your feature flags
Enable Custom Domains
Once enabled, a new tab will appear in your settings.
Step 2: Configure your Custom Domain
Go to Settings > Custom Domain
Enter your desired domain name
Save the configuration
After saving, orderBilly will generate the required DNS records.
Step 3: Configure DNS records
Copy the DNS records shown in orderBilly
Go to your domain/website provider (e.g. hosting provider)
Add the DNS records
⚠️ Note: DNS changes may take some time to propagate.
Step 4: Add Google Tag Manager
You can configure Google Tag Manager directly in the orderBilly backoffice:
Go to Settings > Google Tag Manager
Enter your GTM container ID (e.g. GTM-XXXXXXX).
Save your changes
What happens next?
After setup:
Your GTM container is loaded on your ordering pages
You can manage tracking, analytics, and marketing tags directly via Google Tag Manager
No additional development or script changes are needed
Example use cases
Track conversions (orders completed)
Add marketing pixels (Google Ads, Meta, etc.)
Measure user behaviour in the ordering flow
Set up remarketing campaigns
Show your own cookie consent banner
Using your own cookie banner?
Does your GTM container load your own cookie consent banner? Then your customers would be asked for their consent twice: once by your banner and once by the standard orderBilly banner. To avoid this, you can switch off the orderBilly banner for your brand.
Go to your Organisation, open Brands and select your brand.
In the Tracking section, check that your GTM container ID is filled in.
Switch off Show the default cookie banner.
Save your changes. Done ✅
Good to know:
You can only switch off the default banner when a GTM container ID is filled in. Otherwise your customers would see no cookie banner at all. For the same reason, you can't remove the GTM container ID while the default banner is switched off.
Once the default banner is off, your own banner is the only one asking for consent. Test it on your ordering pages before you switch ours off.
The default banner is on for every brand, so nothing changes until you switch it off yourself.
You need permission to manage brands to change this setting.
Important notes
A custom domain is required for this feature to work
GTM replaces the older custom script/tag implementation
Make sure your GTM container is properly configured to avoid tracking issues
Loading your own cookie banner through GTM? Switch off the default orderBilly banner, so customers aren't asked twice
Summary
The Google Tag Manager integration gives you full control over tracking and marketing tools within orderBilly. By combining it with a custom domain, you can easily plug your analytics setup into your ordering experience, including your own cookie consent banner.
