How to show additions step by step

Let customers build their dish step by step instead of choosing everything from one list, and when to use which.

When a product has additions (like a sauce, a size or toppings), you can choose how your customers see them: all together in one list, or step by step, one choice at a time.

List vs step by step

List (default)

All additions are shown together on one screen, below each other. Your customer scrolls down, makes their choices and adds the product to their basket.

Step by step

Your customer goes through the additions one at a time. Each step asks one question, like 'Choose your base', then 'Choose your protein', then 'Choose your toppings'.

At the end, they see an overview of everything they picked before adding it to their basket.

When to use which?

Use a list when…

  • A product has only one or two additions, like 'Which sauce?' or 'How many glasses would you like?'.

  • The additions are optional extras that most customers skip.

  • Customers should order quickly, for example drinks at the bar. Everything is on one screen, so no clicking through steps.

Use step by step when…

  • Customers build their own dish, like a poké bowl, a burger, a pizza or a salad.

  • A product has many additions. One question at a time keeps it clear, instead of one long list.

  • Some choices depend on an earlier choice. For example: only ask 'Which drink?' when the customer picked 'Make it a menu'.

  • You use a kiosk. Step by step works great on a big touchscreen and makes ordering faster.

How to show additions step by step

  1. Go to Catalogue > Products. Find the product in the list and click the pencil on the right, or search for it with the search bar at the top.

  2. Click "Go to detail page" and scroll to Additions.

  3. Switch on Stepped additions.

  4. Click Save. Done ✅

This is set per product. So you can show additions step by step on your poké bowl, and as a list on your drinks.

Good to know: The steps follow the order of the additions on your product. Put the most important choice first, for example the size or the base.
