Billy talks to your CashDro over the internet. To make that work, your CashDro has to be reachable from outside your own network. You set this up with a port forward on your router.
Important: Setting up your network is your responsibility, or that of your IT or network partner. Billy cannot configure routers or firewalls for you. Please share this article with whoever manages your network before your CashDro onboarding.
In short: 3 checks
Confirm the CashDro web interface is reachable on your local network at
https://{localIP}/CashDro3WebSet up port forwarding from your WAN IP to that
{localIP}Confirm WAN to local works by opening
https://{WAN IP}:{port}/CashDro3Webfrom outside your network
Only when all 3 checks pass will the CashDro work with Billy. The details for each step are below.
Before you start
Make sure you have:
A CashDro that is switched on, has cash loaded and is connected with a network cable.
A fixed local IP address ({localIP}) for the CashDro (for example a DHCP reservation on your router), so the address does not change after a restart.
A fixed public IP address (WAN IP) from your internet provider.
Admin access to your router (and to your provider's modem, if you have both).
Step 1: Confirm the CashDro web interface works locally
On a computer connected to the same network as the CashDro, open:
https://{localIP}/CashDro3Web
For example: https://192.168.1.50/CashDro3Web
You should see the CashDro login page. A certificate warning in your browser is normal, you can continue past it.
Don't see the CashDro page? Stop here. Either the IP address is wrong, or the CashDro itself is not set up correctly. Contact your CashDro supplier first. The next steps will not work until this one does.
Step 2: Set up port forwarding to the local IP
On your router, create a port forwarding rule:
External port: a free port of your choice, for example
2443Internal IP: the {localIP} of the CashDro from step 1
Internal port:
443Protocol: TCP
In short: {WAN IP}:2443 → {localIP}:443
Two routers? (modem from your provider + your own router)
This is called double NAT and is the most common cause of problems. The traffic then has to be forwarded twice: from the provider's modem to your router, and from your router to the CashDro. Every hop has to point to the right IP and port. If possible, put the provider's modem in bridge mode so only one router remains. Ask your provider or IT partner if you are unsure.
Step 3: Confirm WAN to local works
This is the test that really counts. Use a device that is not on your own network, for example your phone with Wi-Fi switched off (4G/5G only). Open:
https://{WAN IP}:{port}/CashDro3Web
For example: https://81.82.83.84:2443/CashDro3Web
You should see the same CashDro login page as in step 1.
Watch out for false positives:
Testing from a computer inside your own network does not prove the port forward works. Many routers handle that traffic internally. Always test from outside.
Getting a page on
https://{WAN IP}:{port}/is not enough. The /CashDro3Web page must load, otherwise the traffic is not reaching the CashDro.
Step 4: Enter the details in Billy
Once step 3 works, enter your WAN IP and the external port (for example 2443) in the CashDro settings in the Billy backoffice, or send them to your Billy contact.
Step 5: Do a test payment
Place a test order on the kiosk and pay with cash. The CashDro should start accepting money right away.
Troubleshooting
Step 1 fails: wrong local IP, CashDro not on the network, or CashDro not configured. Contact your CashDro supplier.
Step 1 works, step 3 fails: the port forward is not correct. Check the internal IP and ports, and check for double NAT (two routers).
Everything worked, but stopped after a restart: the CashDro probably got a new local IP. Set a fixed IP / DHCP reservation and update the port forward.
Steps 1 to 3 work, but the kiosk still shows an error: contact Billy support and include the screenshots below.
